One man is leading the way to a more sustainable Charlotte.

According to Executive Director Shannon Binns of Sustain Charlotte, sustainability efforts in Charlotte, NC are lacking relative to those of other metropolitan areas. He founded Sustain Charlotte in January 2010 to meet this need and is on a mission to facilitate the sustainability movement in the Charlotte region.

“Our mission is to inspire, inform, and facilitate a holistic and collaborative approach to building a vibrant and sustainable future for the entire Charlotte metropolitan region.”

To achieve this mission, Sustain Charlotte focuses on educating, engaging, and uniting the people of the Charlotte region. They hope to educate people about the value of sustainability and how to achieve it, engage people in discussions about the city’s future, and unite the region’s citizens and organizations to developed a shared strategy for that future.

Sustain Charlotte and Executive Director Shannon Binns were recently featured in our blog. Our Energy & Green Building writer, John Thigpen, had a chance to interview Mr. Binns and ask about how city officials have received input from Sustain Charlotte, what changes have been realized, and about raising awareness of sustainability efforts in Charlotte. You can read that interview here.
